In Geography this week, we have been learning about the River Tyne and how it has changed over time. We compared photographs and information showing what the river looked like in the past and what it looks like today.
The children discovered that the River Tyne was once a busy industrial area, with shipbuilding and heavy industry playing an important role in people’s lives. We then explored how the river is used today for tourism, leisure activities, wildlife and modern businesses.
We had some fantastic discussions about whether we would prefer to explore the River Tyne in the past or the present day. The children shared thoughtful ideas, with some saying they would like to experience the river’s industrial past for a day so they could see what it was really like. Others preferred the River Tyne as it is today, enjoying the cleaner environment and the variety of activities available along the river.
We were very impressed by everyone’s geographical thinking and their ability to compare a landscape indifferent time periods. Well done! 🌟
