Canine Capers in Oaks

Article 29: Your education should help you use and develop your talents and abilities. It should also help you learn to live peacefully, protect the environment and respect other people.

Today in Oaks, after learning about inheritance and how we get different characteristics from our parents, we decided to invent our ideal bread of dog.

First, we watched a video about beagles who were bred for competition and how the breeder chose which dogs to use.

We then looked at established cross breads, what characteristics were chosen and why. For example, a Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador and a poodle to make a pet that doesn’t shed hair.

We then listed characteristics we would like in our ideal ped dog for example, friendly behavior, adventurous spirit, stamina, size, being a guard dog, colour, coat etc. We then used the i pads to research dogs with these characteristics and invented our own cross breeds. We even gave them names such as.

“Chugglehund”- Pug/Chihuahua/Beagle/Dachshund

“Elaskador Retriever” Labrador/Alaskan Malamud/ Grey Hound

“Freisnation Pug” – Bichonfrise / Dalmatian/Pug
