Elms (Y5)

Welcome to Elms

Teachers: Mrs Lemmon, Miss Jones & Mrs Barnett

Welcome to Elms Class! We are committed to creating a caring and supportive environment where every child feels happy, safe and confident to learn. We encourage children to do their very best, show kindness to others and take pride in their achievements. We are excited to work together and make this a successful and enjoyable year for everyone.

📚 Homework

Homework is set every Friday and should be completed and returned by the following Friday.

✏️ Spellings

Spellings will be sent home at the beginning of each spelling unit and children will be tested at the end of the unit.

As our spelling units vary in length, please check the spelling sheet carefully for the date of each spelling test. Regular practice at home will help children make excellent progress.

📖 Reading

Children should read at home every day for at least 10–15 minutes.

Daily reading plays a vital role in developing fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills, so we encourage reading to become part of your child’s everyday routine.

💻 Reading Plus

Children should complete 5 Reading Plus texts each week, both in and out of school.

There will be two opportunities during the school week for children to access Reading Plus. Any texts that have not been completed in school should be finished at home as part of their homework.

Regular use of Reading Plus helps to develop reading fluency, comprehension and confidence, supporting children’s progress across all areas of learning.

🔢 Times Tables

Children should continue to practise their times tables daily, including regular use of Times Tables Rock Stars (TT Rock Stars) at home.

Frequent practice helps children improve their recall speed and accuracy, building confidence in mathematics and supporting their learning across the curriculum. Even a few minutes each day can make a significant difference.

⚽ PE – Wednesday

Our PE day is Wednesday, where children will be supported by Mr Peden. Please ensure that children come to school with the correct PE kit.

We are looking forward to working together and making this a fantastic year in Elms Class!
