As part of our study of the Ancient Romans, Bluebells, Snowdrops and Tulips visited Wallsend and the Segedunum Roman Fort.
On a beautiful, sunny day, we got to explore the ruins of the fort; this included seeing surviving parts of Hadrian’s Wall. Everyone looked around for clues about what each part of the fort might have been used for. It was very interesting to read about how people lived over 2000 years ago.
Inside the museum, we were treated to two fascinating workshops. One was all about life for the indigenous Celts. We learned about Queen Boudicca and how Celts would prepare for battle against the Romans. It was fun to carry out jobs such as making wool bracelets, fencing our roundhouse walls and tattooing ourselves in woad.
The second workshop involved learning about how to be a Roman soldier. We marched, handled weaponry and saw our teachers dress as Roman soldiers.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all at Segedunum, to the coach drivers and the parent helps who gave up their time to accompany us.
