Dear Parents/ Carers
Update re September 2020 Re-opening plan
The guidance from the government about our return to full time school in September arrived yesterday. We have started working on how this will look for the pupils of Windy Nook, however, we may not have all the answers to your questions immediately. We will continue to update you via the website and through text messages as we receive more information.
School Starting and Ending Times
We will need to operate a staggered start and end time, similar to what has been in place this half term, in order to reduce the number of pupils / parents trying to enter the school premises at the same time. Children will enter their classrooms via their classroom door and will not be allowed to congregate on the school yard. We would also ask that parents do not stop to talk to other parents but enter and leave the premises as quickly as possible. School will also continue to operate a one way system, however, we are hopeful that we will be able to reopen the back gate. Arrows will direct you around the building.
Breakfast Club
We are hoping to be able to offer breakfast club provision in September, however, this may not be available the first week back as staff and pupils get settled into the new way of working.
Training Day
The school’s training day will take place on Friday 4th September so all children, except those in Nursery, will be expected to attend school from Monday 7th September. Please be aware that the government have made it very clear that all children have to attend school from September 2020.
Transition for New Starters
It has been very difficult this year as new Reception and Nursery pupils have not had the chance to visit school and pupils in other year groups have not been able to meet their new class teachers. We hope that the video links we sent, via the text message service, have allowed your child to learn a little bit about their new teacher ready for September. A huge thank you to Kevin Owens, one of our governors, for assisting us with this.
Uniform
Pupils will be expected to be in full school uniform from September, however, we are hoping to continue with our outdoor learning so would ask if children could wear trainers rather than school shoes until at least October half term. This will mean children will not have to change their shoes ready for outdoor learning and PE. On allocated PE days the children can wear PE kit all day.
Equipment
Pupils will be provided with all of the learning equipment they need so we would ask that children do not bring in any equipment from home. We would ask that pupils do not bring large rucksacks/ bags as they potentially are going to need to be stored in classrooms.
We will update you over the next two weeks as the plans for coming back are finalised. It will be fantastic to have all pupils back in school, but I’m sure you will appreciate the work involved in getting everything ready for their safe return.
Many thanks
Lucie Forrest
