Celebrating the Olympics for Virtual Torch Relay

This week, the whole school has taken part in The Virtual Torch Relay, an event ran across 34 other schools in Gateshead. Children from each class were assigned an Olympic country and came dressed in those colours. The children decorated flags and learned about their country and famous athletes from there. On the day, children across the school designed their very own Olympic torch. They looked at some previous designs and then made it more personal to them, these will be judged by our elected Torch Bearers in Year 5 and 6 next week.

In LKS2, the children learned a bit more about all the different types of Olympic sports and took part in a Dragon’s Den style activity to design their own sport.

In UKS2, children learned about the Olympic values and why they are so important. They enjoyed watching some highlights from past years where athletes demonstrated those Olympic values and overcame adversity.

We all had a great day in school celebrating and it definitely made all the children excited for the Olympics that will hopefully take place this summer!
