Here Comes Jack Frost

We have continued to think about Winter weather with the focus on the story, Here Comes Jack Frost. We painted the characters from the story using shades of blue and silver paint. We made edible collages of the characters from the story using cooked macaroni, penne, basmati rice and white bread. Before making the collages we compared the raw and cooked pasta and rice and discussed their textures and the change in their appearance after it had been cooked. We did some super shape work in maths, identifying 2D shapes and their properties. In phonics, we produced our own sounds on a variety of materials outdoors by tapping them with sticks. We soon realised that each material produced a different sound. During our outdoor session we became scientists and experimented with ice. We discovered that the quickest way to melt the ice and ‘free’ the winter animals trapped inside was by putting the ice in some warm water.
