As you may have been aware, last month was walk to school month. Schools across the country made an extra effort to travel to school in a more active way to celebrate it. As part of walk to school moth, our active travel was logged against other schools in Gateshead. The leader board was close but Windy Nook ended up finishing 5th out of 17 schools for the most active trips within the month. Furthermore, 206 pupils across the school achieved their October walk to school badges and we recorded 2,458 active trips in total!
As the winter months creep in, we appreciate it is not always easy to travel in an active way. However, even parking somewhere slightly further away from school (such as the fiddlers) can be recorded as an active trip as it is a park and stride. Parking further away will also help to reduce traffic directly outside of school and make it more safe for children to cross the road.
