Understanding happy and sad emotions

Children in KS1 have been looking what being happy and sad looks and feels like in myself and others. They enjoyed playing the game ‘I can make you laugh’ where they asked each other questions such as What is our school made of? What is the name of your best friend? What is your name? What do you use to clean your teeth? What do you use to paint a picture? They could only answer with the word ‘sausages’. It was very difficult as all the children wanted to do was laugh.

They also looked at different scenarios as a group and discussed whether or not it made them very sad, quite sad or a little sad. As a group they suggest things that the person in the scenario could do to cheer themselves up or get support. We all agreed if they are ever feeling sad that there are lots of adults in school who they can speak to and share their worries.
