In year 5, children have the opportunity to take part in a very exciting engineering project called ‘Crank it Up’. This project is ran by Beamish and challenges children to make a functioning toy crane using k’nex pieces. The children in year 5 will work in 2 teams in their classes to design. make and evaluate their crane ready to bring to Beamish at the end of June. To introduce them to the challenge, the project organiser from Beamish, along with two engineers came in to introduce the children to k’nex and the world of engineering. Year 5 really enjoyed making different shapes with the k’nex and challenging themselves to think like an engineer.
