Float or sink? Let’s investigate!

This half term, we have been learning about forces in science. We have learnt that a force is an action that changes or maintains the motion of a body or object. Simply, a force is a push or a pull.

Forces can change an objects speed, direction and even its shape. Last week, we took part in a mini investigation – Does weight affect force?

We explored whether the weight of an object had an affect on its ability to float or sink in the water. First of all, children predicted which of the 10 items would float or sink. They grouped the items on their table.

Then, they experimented by dropping an item in one at a time and recording whether it sank or floated. Some of us were shocked when our predictions didn’t match the results!
