Nursery Scientists!

As this week is British Science Week we have been scientists and started an experiment using apples. We used all of our senses to explore some apples and discussed out findings. First of all we looked at the apple and discussed its shape, colour, size and the detail on it like the stalk and the bottom of the core. We felt the apple and decided that it was cold and smooth. Before tasting the apple we smelled it and then we listened to the crunching noises we produced as we bit into it. We then put apple cores into transparent bags so that we can examine the cores every day and note any changes. We made links to our compost bin and the fact that we can’t see the different stages of decomposition within the bin as it is made of black plastic and is not transparent. We also extracted some of the apple seeds from the cores and we have wrapped them in kitchen roll, wet them and put them into the fridge for twenty five days before we plant them. We walked up to our ‘top field’ and examined the apple trees to see which stage of the cycle they are at. We discovered that our apple trees had some buds on which was very exciting!

On Friday we participated in Comic Relief Day and we didn’t wear our school uniform. We drew pictures of funny faces on the interactive white board and at the writing table which made us laugh! Some of us told us jokes to make us laugh too!
