Remember for this activity, it is important that your child blends the word. Your child should identify if there is a special friend, say the special friends and Fred Talk, read the word. Remember, some words do not have special friends. If your child does not do this automatically, prompt them the first few times by saying “Special friends, Fred talk, read the word”. Once your child gets used to this, try not to use the phrase. Don’t go through the entire booklet in one go. Section two is more difficult, so you might not complete this section, or you may do lots of modelling to show how to blend these words. Children find it difficult to identify split vowels a-e, e-e, o-e, u-e so they may need more support with these words. You may feel that your child needs to focus on section one only or section two only. Please ask your child’s class teacher for advice if you are unsure.
