Today, children in Oaks took on a ‘conversation comprehension’ to develop their oracy skills. Everyone read a text about peculiar pets and then the children worked in groups with each child taking on a different role in a ‘Round Robin’ style conversation to answer given questions. They used given sentence stems suited to their roles as Chat Starter, Thought Checker, Idea Challenger or Wrap-Up Recapper to guide the conversation. The children were fantastic, rotating around the roles and speaking clearly and confidently in their groups and to the class. They all particularly enjoyed not having to do any writing!
