Banksy Art at Windy Nook

This term, KS1 have been diving into the fascinating world of Banksy, the mysterious street artist known for his powerful imagery and thought-provoking messages.

The children have explored how Banksy uses stencils to create bold and striking images, often with a strong message behind them. Inspired by his work, they experimented with stencil techniques of their own, learning how to layer shapes and create clean outlines.

As part of their art journey, the pupils also developed their skills in using light and dark pencil shading to add depth and contrast to their drawings. They explored how shadows and highlights can change the mood of a picture, just like in Banksy’s monochrome pieces. They particularly enjoyed creating street art designs using different materials and on the playground walls.

To build on their understanding of visual elements, the children looked at patterns in art—repeating shapes, lines, and textures—and used these to create their own Banksy-inspired designs.

The unit has sparked lots of creativity and thoughtful discussion, and the children have loved expressing their ideas through this unique and modern art form. We’re incredibly proud of their work!
