Somebody’s been eating my porridge!

Reception children have had a fantastic few weeks learning through the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The story sparked lots of rich discussion and imaginative play. Indoors, we read a simple porridge recipe together, learning new words like “ingredients,” “instructions,” “mixture,” and “temperature.” The children followed each step carefully, measured oats and milk, and talked about how the porridge changed as it cooked. This helped develop early reading, sequencing, and language skills in a meaningful, hands-on way. Outdoors, the learning continued in our den-building area. Children worked together to create beds and chairs for the bears using the crates. They explored size by comparing what was “big,” “medium,” and “small,” just like in the story. This supported early maths skills and encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity.
