Another busy week in Nursery!

The children enjoyed a busy and engaging week filled with purposeful play and learning. They took part in Squiggle While You Wiggle and Playdough Disco, where they used big arm movements, dancing and playdough actions to strengthen the muscles needed for mark‑making and early writing. They practised moving their bodies in different directions, following patterns and enjoying music, which helped build both confidence and coordination.

In maths, the children explored numbers to 5 and practised working out “how many more” were needed to complete a set. They rolled a number cube, counted out small objects and placed them carefully in a row. They compared amounts and talked about what they needed next using mathematical language such as more, fewer, same and altogether. This hands‑on activity helped them link counting with real objects and begin to understand simple addition in a practical way.

The children also developed their physical skills through movement games. They jumped over “puddles”, hopped like different animals and took part in running and stopping games where they listened carefully for signals. These activities supported their balance, coordination and control, as well as their ability to move safely around others and follow instructions.

To build early phonics skills, the children took part in a fun oral blending activity using a “Sound Box”. Adults gave clues using “robot talk” (such as c‑u‑p), and the children blended the sounds to guess the object before it was revealed. They listened carefully, joined in with blending and began to recognise how individual sounds join together to make a word. This play‑based approach helped strengthen their listening, attention and early reading foundations.
