We have been celebrating Interfaith week across school, a chance to celebrate diversity and promote understanding of different religions in our school community. Across each year group, children have been looking at a story from various different religions that introduces core values such as kindness, courage, compassion and faith. After reading the stories, children have taken part in various activities linked to their class story.
Early years read the story of The Good Samaritan (Christianity) and created a kindness tree where each leaf represents a kind action the children have done for others.
Key Stage 1 children read the story of David and Goliath (Judaism) and then discussed real life heroes who show bravery without violence.
Lower Key Stage 2 children read the story of The Monkey King (Buddhism) and then created leader’s crowns and mindmaps to explain what a good leader is.
Upper Key Stage 2 children read the story of Guru Nanak and the Sacred Thread (Sikhism) and created a class mural to celebrate diversity and equality.
It’s been great to learn about religions we are not so familiar with and celebrate their beliefs!
